We love food.
Hailing from the home of BBQ, the United States of America, Chef Mat Fulton has had a passion for good food since school, becoming a chef right after High School in his home country.
He worked as a chef in many renowned restaurants all over the world, but when destiny brought him to NZ he felt compelled to introduce Kiwi’s to some of his delicious childhood memories.
Mat reckons that BBQ is the American version of hangi. It brings people, whanau and communities together, over great food, soulfully cooked.
His double barrel Octopit trailer smoker was designed and made especially for his needs and can be seen at the Kerikeri Farmers Markets, Competitions or at parties he’s catering.
He combines his own spice rubs and sauces with quality cuts of meat to turn it into tender, smoky goodness. And, you can buy Mats Wingless Angel BBQ Rubs in Barbeque BOI, on Kerikeri’s Main Street, so you can have the same great flavours at home.

He’s a chef. And has worked in some pretty fancy restaurants in his time. He even has Michelin star experience in Chicago.
Yeah, bet you didn’t expect that.
Mat has a passion for wholesome, fulfilling food. Food that you, the kids, your grandma, your uncle who always falls asleep at the table, can all get stuck in to. Food where you know everyone is going to go home full, not whinging because there wasn’t enough food. He also enjoys cooking food that isn’t just BBQ, because it’s seeing all the flavours coming together, creating a taste explosion.

Our food can cater to vegetarians, gluten free, dairy free and halal, but does not cater to vegans. It’s nothing personal {we swear}, buuuuut we can’t do it because of the risk of contamination.
Plus we like meat. Sorry.
